New Research Highlights Provider Insights on Family Engagement in Home Visiting

This month, HARC members Hellen Milojevich, Faith Swan, and David Bard shared important findings from their latest study exploring provider perspectives on family enrollment and participation in home visiting programs.

The study revealed that providers see home visiting as closely aligned with parents’ goals for their children’s development. However, they also recognized that real-life challenges—like work demands and food insecurity—can make it difficult for families to enroll or stay involved.

While many parents are eager to support their child’s growth, the study noted that some may hesitate to engage fully when sensitive topics like substance use or domestic violence arise. These findings point to a need for providers to consider each family’s sense of readiness, their belief in the program’s value, and how well they feel it fits their needs.

The research also emphasizes the role of providers in fostering trust and tailoring engagement strategies to better support families throughout their home visiting journey.
