Beyond Bubble Baths: Lessons from “Real Self-Care”
By Christine Nicholson, PAT IL State Office
During three enriching sessions, we explored Real Self-Care by Dr. Pooja Lakshmin—a powerful book that reimagines what caring for ourselves truly means. Together, we moved beyond the myths of bubble baths and journals, diving into the deeper, transformative work of Real Self-Care.
Our discussions focused on setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and making values-based decisions to support long-term well-being. These conversations created space for reflection, connection, and practical strategies—both personal and professional. Each session became a thoughtful journey into standing in our power—not by pushing harder, but by pausing, tuning in, and choosing intentionally.
Participants shared insights, encouraged one another, and considered how real self-care can help us show up more fully for ourselves and the families we serve. Whether you joined one session or all three, your presence helped create a vibrant, meaningful learning community. We’re excited about the energy and growth these conversations sparked! Stay tuned for another opportunity to join a group TA book study in FY26.
